Portland, Oregon (January 4, 2010) – The award-winning Portland Indie Wine & Food Festival returns in May to showcase 40 jury-selected, Oregon craft wineries and 15 of Portland’s creative culinary talents in an intimate farmer’s market-style setting.
The festival, set to take place Saturday, May 8, 2010 at The Bison Building, benefits the Indie Wine Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to preserving and sustaining the art of craft winemaking.
All 2010 “Official Wine Selections” will be announced on April 2nd. Only Oregon craft wineries – those producing 2,500 cases or fewer annually – qualify to enter wine for judging consideration. On March 15th, twelve renowned wine experts, celebrity chefs and journalists will travel to Portland to evaluate and rate all entries according to typicity of varietal, terroir and vintage. The highest scoring 40 will pour and sell the selected wines at the 2010 festival in May.
The 2010 festival welcomes a new value-driven category that will recognize the top scoring reds under $25 and whites under $15. Judges for the 2010 festival include Claud Mann of TBS’ Dinner and a Movie, James Cury of hearst.com, James Beard nominated Chef Cathy Whims of Nostrana and Bernie Sun, Corporate Beverage Director at Jean-Georges Management, LLC.
Portland’s top chefs will join the selected 40 craft producers and serve up sophisticated wine-friendly bites. 2009 chef and restaurant participants included Executive Chef and butcher Adam Sappington of The Country Cat Dinnerhouse & Bar with Grilled Texas toast with smoked steelhead, fennel pickles, clabber cream and watercress purée; Simpatica Catering and Dining Hall
with New York Strip with Mascarpone and truffle cheese on crostini; and Thomas Dunklin of Red Star Roasthouse & Tavern
with Lamb tartare chickpea cake, mint, cumin yogurt and sweet pea mousse, port glaze, young greens. 2010 participating chefs and restaurants will be announced April 2nd.
