The Spot for Ice Cream in July - The Original

Think grilled peach + peppercorn … Downtown Dinerant offers 20 flavors of
handcrafted cool treats for National Ice Cream Month

Portland, Ore., June 15, 2011 Mmm, that classic combination of bacon, maple, bourbon and … ice cream? For National Ice Cream Month in July, salivating Portlanders can find mouthwatering ice cream flavors like Bourbon Maple Bacon, French Toast, or even Crème Fraiche Blackberry at The Original in downtown Portland.

“Ice cream has always been an American summertime favorite, and right now there’s a growing appreciation of handcrafted fresh and fun flavors,” says Pastry Chef Sally Bowers of The Original. “There will always be a place for chocolate and vanilla, but there’s also a place for Lick the Beater-Cake Batter ice cream.”

The Original is known for their modern twist on the timeless American menu. Boozie milkshakes, and housemade sodas like Ginger Mint and Citrus Lemongrass are classic thirst quenchers after dishes like the Delux Burger made with grass-fed Highland beef - from one cow - and topped with fried onions, blue cheese, shallot aioli and gruyére ($11.95); or an entrée of Pork ‘n’ Beans, a braised pork shank on a bed of corona beans, pickled peppers, preserved lemon and parsley salad ($16.95).

These playful variations for Ice Cream Month can be purchased in one, two and three scoop sizes ($2.95, $4.95, $6.95). For the trivia hounds out there, make sure to follow Twitter and Facebook for opportunities to win free scoops!
